Congratulations to SEPAL Alum Thomas Jenkinson

Thomas Jenkinson, SEPAL NSF SK-12 Fellow from 2008 – 2010 & Master’s Student with Dennis Desjardin, was recently awarded the Dow Sustainability Fellowship.  This is an academic fellowship in conjunction with the Dow Company and the University of Michigan which supports Doctoral Students over two academic years.

Congratulations to Kimberly Tanner and her team of Science Faculty with Education Specialties on their recent publication in the prestigious science journal, The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Their paper addresses “Widespread distribution and unexpected variation among science faculty with education specialties (SFES) across the United States”

Congratulations to our Two Spectrum Participants

Please join SEPAL in congratulating two outstanding Spectrum participants who were recently selected for prestigious awards.

Spectrum Scientist, Jennifer Chinchilla, was selected for the SFSU Community Service Learning Award for the two years of outstanding participation in the Spectrum program to co-sponsor after-school science clubs for girls of color at local SF middle schools.

Spectrum Faculty and SFSU Biology Professor, Dr. Letica Marquez-Magana was selected to be featured in the new magazine, Cosmo for Latinas!  She was just awarded the 2013 Fun/Fearless award in the Science area for her contributions in science and the mentorship she provides for students of color at SFSU.  Please keep an eye out for the issue appearing on newsstands on June 2013.

Undergraduate Zoology major AND SEPAL SPIKE Alum Michelle Davila (Zink Lab) received a Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s (HHMI) Exceptional Research Opportunities Program Fellowship to conduct research in the lab of an HHMI professor.

Congratulations to SEPAL Alum Briana McCarthy

We would like to congratulate SEPAL alum, Briana McCarthy, on her new position at the California Academy of Sciences, where she is the Teacher Educator and Instructional Coach with the Teacher Institute on Science and Sustainability.  Briana received her MS in Ecology and Systematic Biology through SEPAL in 2009.
